How to reach us safely
Call (718) 484-7510, or ask for a private call back. You tell us how and when to reach you. We never leave a message unless you say we can, and we never contact the other person.

If you are in danger now, call 911
We are a law firm, not an emergency service. A lawyer cannot keep you physically safe. A domestic-violence advocate can help you make a safety plan.

Hours
Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern. If business hours are not safe for you, tell us a time that is.
Languages
We speak English, Russian, Spanish and Uzbek in-house. We arrange live interpretation for any other language. Mikhail Usher personally speaks English, Russian and Spanish.
Getting here
The office is in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, near the B and Q trains at Sheepshead Bay station. You do not need to come in: most VAWA work can be done by phone or video, and the self-petition is filed by mail, so we work with survivors anywhere in the United States. Tell us if you need help with accessibility.
Before you send anything by email
Do not email documents, photographs or your story until we have spoken and agreed on a safe way to exchange them. Sending us information does not make you a client and does not make what you send privileged. An attorney-client relationship begins only when we and you sign a written retainer agreement.
Safe contact
- Tell us how and when to reach you. A phone or email that is safe, and the times that are safe. Any name you want us to use is enough.
- We never leave a message unless you say so. No voicemail and no text unless you have told us it is safe.
- We never contact the other person. Not the abuser, not the abuser's lawyer, not the abuser's family.
- Nothing goes out in this site's name. We do not call from a number or send anything that names this site.
On a shared phone or computer
Calling and browsing both leave traces. Before you call or write, read staying safe online for how to clear your history and what Quick Exit can and cannot do.
If there has been an arrest
If you or the other person was arrested or charged, talk to your criminal lawyer before you write anything down. Read arrested or charged.
The lawyers who will handle your case
One of them calls you back, privately, on your terms.
