Mikhail Usher, Esq.

Mr. Usher came to immigration practice as a trial lawyer. At St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami he competed on the school's national champion mock trial team and served as a Student Bar Association senator. He clerked for Judge Amy Steele Donner in Dade County, Florida, then spent three years at a Brooklyn firm where he built its criminal division, before opening Usher Law Group in Sheepshead Bay in 2013.
That background shapes how the firm handles abuse cases. A survivor's immigration case often sits next to a criminal case, a protective order or a family court case, and a lawyer who has defended criminal cases reads a record differently from one who has not. If there has been an arrest on either side, read arrested or charged first.
As managing attorney he is responsible for the firm's VAWA work: self-petitions on Form I-360, the green card application that follows, the abuse waiver for a conditional resident, and VAWA claims raised in immigration court. Where a survivor also has a criminal or family case, the immigration filing is planned around it, so that what is said in one case does not undercut the other.
He speaks English, Russian and Spanish.
